    Everyone whining about the price, these can be had for a limited time for $349 from Tivo as a refurb model. They are also offering the Lifetime subscription package again at 399 so w/shipping about 770 and never pay another dime. Add a slingbox pro to it an now you can watch everything from your Tivo on your iPhone. Oh and WD came out with a Bookdrive to give an additional 65 hours of High def playback..

    For the price they’re asking, it should come with a night with “Tivo Shanan.”

  6. PantheraLeo on March 8th, 2008 6:04 am

    Shanan, you look absolutely stunning in that dress! Totally hot!!! All these tech related comments and questions and you barely get noticed. That’s wrong.

    Won’t upgrade until they have the built in DVD feature … get with it TIVO … for $800 bones you should include the DVD recorder and 100 free disc.

    I have Comcast as many do. I pay $9.00 per month for the rental of the box and they will upgrade it anytime with a free subscription to the TV Guide. Now, the $9.00 is only $5.00 more than their regular digital box…Ok, now you want over $800.00 for the HD Tivo and $199.00 to transfer the subscription… at $800.00 I could pay the Comcast rental for 13 years before I would break even. Are the Tivo folks getting this? NOT

    $199 would have seemed fair to purchase the new series 3 box. Seeing that I already purchased this lifetime pass TWICE i feel that $799 + $199 offer is a direct slap in the face. Tivo should be ashamed of themselves for treating their “supposed to be valued” customers this way!! Outrageous!!

    Her name is Tivo Shanan. Very Hot. She is wearing a Corset made by Dark Garden which just makes her hotter.

  11. mkulkis on March 15th, 2008 6:59 am

    That TiVo chick is HOT!!!

  12. Anubis68 on March 18th, 2008 6:28 pm

    Alangpgh – - Yes, but you have to buy directly from TiVo (per tivo dot com slash vip) before 12/31. You then have to call a special number (listed on that page) to transfer the lifetime service.

    I’ve read that all of the outputs work simultaneously, so it can be connected to a standard TV via composite or s-video cable (no RF output). It will still be able to record the hi-def video, taking up more space, but the video should be way clearer. One thing to note is it only has input to accept a cable or antenna signal…it does not work with a set top box, so it cannot support satellite. DirecTV customers already have a TiVo box that works only for their system anyway.

    While I’m sure the price will come down on the series-3 it’s hard for me to justify the $800 cost despite how much I hate my cable PVR. Plus I have Comcast, which is going to provided TiVo eventually anyway. I’m sure they will allow me to lease the hardware for a low monthly fee. In the two years it’ll take to pay $800 there will be some new techology out anyhow.

    A Series 3 cost $799. Sorry, but that’s rediculous. I can build a MythTV for much cheaper and upgrade the components whenever I want.

    I’m a Tivo 2 user, but at that price, there’s no way I’m spending $800 just for HD compatibility.

  16. jeffislouie on March 27th, 2008 9:23 pm

    comcast is supposed to be rolling out the tivo software on their DVR’s in the next 6-8 months (so I am told) so the HD dvr nightmare box they have out now will be usuable. Tivo has been pissin’ me off lately, pushing out faulty updates that slow down the box.

    Awesome!!! I’ve been waiting :-)

    My current cable company HD DVR is dreadful. The $800 is almost worth it to get out from under that thing. My concern is that I want to hook the HDMI up to my receiver and then off to the TV but with my other equipment I usually get the HD Copy block which stinks because I have to hook the HDMI up to the HD TV set and then another optical to my AV equipment for sound.

    $1000+? Kind of much for the unit and transfer. I really thought that the $199 was for the transfer and the unit! Ha boy was I let down. How much do you guys think this is really worth? I think:
    Unit= $400
    Transfer= Free (who I’am I kidding)

    1) don’t know, but don’t count on it. A blu-ray or HD DVD recorder would be nice though (hint)

    2) yes, AND tivo is dumping the lifetime subscription for the new recorders (bummer, but I understand). So this does sound good. HD Tivo ans PS3 this year? ouch. Time to take out another mortgage :)

  21. bacteriaboy on April 4th, 2008 12:40 pm

    Yes, it can record 300 hours of standard def and it has a S-video output as well as HD outputs.

  22. Kristoffr on April 4th, 2008 6:03 pm

    Yes, I am told it can.

  23. Kristoffr on April 8th, 2008 4:19 am

    So, when is it coming out with a built in DVD player so you can transfer copies, HD or otherwise onto disks??

  24. Moonpies on April 9th, 2008 10:36 pm

    From what I have read it will NOT work with DirecTV or Dish Network. It will only work with digital cable.
