How do i hook up my dvd player to my tv, which is connected to tivo? detailed steps please (if possible)?

So the tv input button on my tivo remote control works, but when i try to play the dvd it only plays the sound, not the picture. Can someone please give me instructions on how to hook it up properly? Its only the picture that doesnt show on the input.
