Do you know if/how a TiVo series 2 can be used without the subscription?
December 6, 2008 by admin · 4 Comments
I know that the TiVo series 1 can be used without the subscription — but is there a ***** or hack to get a TiVo series 2 to be used without their monthly subscription?
I bought this item of WOOT.COM and they refuse to accept the return (will never shop with them ever again) and am struck with it
Thanks in advance!
DVD Recorders For The Ultimate Entertainment
September 15, 2008 by admin · Leave a Comment
If you see a VCR now a day, it generates curiosity and it is also possible that it will take time to understand the functionality. More so because the VCR’s are now almost obsolete and are replaced by the high-end DVD players and recorders. A DVD recorder is an electronic device that contains an optical disc recorder, which records the data or a video onto blank writable DVD disk.
These recorders are available as either installable drives for computers or as standalone components for use in studios or home theater systems. If you are using your VCR for quite a time now, this recorder will offer you more advantages over a conventional VCR system.
Though the rivalry is debatable, it is very much about a host of added features that will make this recorder win the race. Some of the basic advantages of these recorders compared to the VCR are as follows.
With help of the DVD device you will experience superior video and audio quality, that is not offered by the conventional VCR Compared to the video tape, the DVD is an easy to handle and smaller in size and can contain more data as well in the form of increased recording time.
It allows random access to video chapters or files without rewinding or fast-forwarding Another great feature us the onscreen multilingual subtitles and labeling that is not available on VCRs
The quality of the media and the optical reader reduces playback wear and tear
It also allows high-quality digital copying, with little or no generation loss
It features improved editing, at least on rewritable media
You can have the playlisting done with your DVD
It eliminates the risk of accidentally recording over existing content or unexpectedly running out of space during recording
Easy to find recordings due to chapter menus
These features greatly increase the popularity of this recorder and it is rightly received by the market leaders as well as they offer a wide array of DVD recorders. Some of the leading manufacturers of the DVD recorders are Sony, Panasonic, JVC, Phillips etc. They offer the DVD recorders with some great features, which makes the experience of using them even more delightful.
A number of manufacturers have gone further and have combined DVD recorders with hard disc-based digital video recorders, allowing for simple recording to large fixed disks, and the ability to spool these recordings off the DVD at a later date.
A good recorder can record analog TV via over-the-air broadcasts, cable, or satellite, standard definition digital television (SDTV), same quality as DVD-Video (480i), analog camcorder video (8mm, Hi-8, VHS, and VHS-C formats), digital camcorder video (miniDV and Digital-8 formats). It is a better idea to read the reviews and compare the DVD recorders on features, price and up gradations. Read the reviews carefully before rushing to buy it.

Common Features And Characteristics Of Digital Video Recorder Servers
August 24, 2008 by admin · Leave a Comment
As you may know, a digital video recorder server is used in DVR surveillance systems of large public places such as hospitals, sports stadiums, shopping malls, office, and office buildings. These security systems are so large that a machine should be powerful enough to handle as much as 64 video channels! Amazing, isn’t it? Here are some characteristics of DVR servers.
Operating System and Compression Algorithms
Most DVR servers are Linux-operated and they use H.264 video compression technology to provide real-time video recording and playback. Most machines can display video resolutions of up to 720 x 480. This means that your surveillance videos are clear and sharp. The number of channels that a digital video recorder server can handle varies on its design and use. Machines used in small stores can accept at least 8 channels, while those that monitor very large places can hold up to 64 channels. However, the graphical interfaces of some machines can only display 8 channels at a time, so you may have to scroll your way down to get to channel number 64.
Common DVR Server Features
No matter what the brand or make of a digital video recorder server, you should look for these necessary features: live recording and playback speeds of 480 frames per second (fps), digital watermarking, object count, motion detection, multi-channel display, CD and DVD burning, and pre and post alarm recording. The storage capacity of servers vary with its purpose and use. The longer the monitoring time, the larger disk storage you may need.
Cameras, Data Back-up, And Internet Connectivity
As mentioned before, an excellent digital video recorder server will always use the most advanced video compression algorithms for the clearest surveillance videos. If you are shopping for a DVR server, always ask if the machine has H.264 compression hardware. Also, most machines come with 18x DVD-RW drives so that you can burn those surveillance videos into DVDs. In terms of Internet connectivity, most servers have remote desktop features and TCP/IP protocols for local area networks (LAN) or wireless area networks (WAN). Any pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) camera today is compatible with any DVR server. Of course, most machines support multi-viewing protocols. Some can also set presets and running patterns for your security cameras.
Ventilation
Indeed, a digital video recorder server is a very sensitive machine. Some are even kept in climate-controlled rooms to make sure that the server does not exceed its temperature thresholds. You might be wondering why. Well, if the server crashes because of too much cold or heat, the whole DVR surveillance system will be completely paralyzed, defeating its purpose. The machine may have its own ventilating system, but the professionals will always tell you not to take any chances.
You can always find a different machine with features that are not mentioned here. But it comes with a higher price tag than your garden-variety DVR server. It is always good to evaluate and reassess your security needs so that you will be spending your money right.

If you are Still Watching Cable, Take Another Look at Satellite Tv!
August 22, 2008 by admin · Leave a Comment
If you are still dealing with the day to day troubles of cable TV, take a look at what DirecTV offers as a Satellite TV provider. Cable TV is infamous for it’s limited channels and programming options as well as possible reception problems of certain kinds. One other problem with cable TV, as far as the limited channels is concerned, is the zoning. Your friend who also uses cable and lives only one mile down the road may get your favorite channel, or at least the channel that shows your favorite TV show where as you (with cable) may not. This is based on differences in cable that have to do with where you are located. Of course this is extremely frustrating for many. With Satellite TV through DirecTV, this problem is totally eliminated. When you sign up with DirecTV you get to pick up from a very large variety of programming packages. Each programming package is geared to a certain style of entertainment and , since DirecTV tries to take houses of all incomes in to consideration, affordability.
Now instead of worrying about what channels you get vs. your friend in a different cable zone, your friend will be dying to get satellite TV to get all of the extra great channels that you have! With DirecTV’s programming package, you will be able to pick a package that has all of the channels you like, plus many more that are still watch able. With the wide variety of programming packages that DirecTV offers you can be sure that you will not get stuck with fifty channels that you will never watch. Getting channels that you have no interest in can be a big problem with other satellite TV provider. DirecTV keeps the fact that everyone has specific interests, differing from each other, in mind and thus has a programming package for everyone!
If you are still dealing with cable’s problems than you are probably still dealing with the problems of a VCR as well. The future of television is here with Satellite TV and included in it’s future are better options for recording. With the old VCRs, or Video Cassette Recorders, every single time that you would want to tape a program you would have to get a different video cassette tape and make sure that it was the right length. Of course as we all know, those old video cassette tapes are bulky and cumbersome and tend to take up a lot of room as you build up a video collection. The days of worrying about the problems of the VCR are over with TiVo and DVR (or Digital Video Recorder) offered by DirecTV. TiVo actually will allow you to pause and rewind live TV where the DVR allows you to record digitally and store up to hours of your favorite programs. All of the great features of satellite TV and the TiVo and DVR set up for a surprisingly affordable price. Check out the DirecTV site on the web for specific pricings. You will be glad you did.

Don’t you sometimes feel that as hard as you try, you just aren’t in control of your life as much as you would like to be? Maybe you have an employer that has some measure of say in how you spend your work days and family responsibilities that override your desires to run off and do what ever you feel like doing.
Then there is the grand daddy of them all and that is the instant slow motion replays that the sports networks have full control of. How many times have you been watching a game and you needed to see a play rerun in slow motion but the control freaks that broadcast the show felt otherwise?
Now you can take full control of this monumental aspect of your life, thanks to DirecTV and Hughes electronics. Hughes is the brand of electronics equipment and components that DirecTV uses exclusively because of their long established reputation for durability and quality.
The Hughes Executive receiver with DVR powered by TiVo has slow motion instant replay that you can always rely on to assist you in your efforts to take back some measure of control of your life, as it pertains to watching sports programming. There are lots of other great features that this and other Hughes receivers come packed with and they are all easy to use, no nonsense functions that aren’t just whistles and bells.
