How to Watch TV on you Pc

John A. Stevens asked:

Many of us out there would like to watch TV on our computers. The issue here is how to do it. There are many free based sites that stream tv programs that are 100% legal. Places like witv.com and worldtvpc.com are a few such sites. The one big issue with these free based ones is they are covered with a billion ads. Well maybe not a billion but many ads. The other thing is most the channels do not work. Hey it’s free so you really can’t expect much.

Anther way to watch tv from your PC is using a device called a sling shot. You need to purchase the sling shot device and set it up on your tv. You connect the device to your high speed internet and then you can tunnel into the device with your pc and watch your TV shows any were in the world as long as you have high speed internet access. It’s not that hard to setup but finding support can be a little hard.

Tivo is another choice. You do not get live tv but you can transfer your tv shows onto your computer and watch them while you are on the road. Tivo has gotten very user friendly over the years and they have good support.

Lastly is a real way to watch over 3000 channels live. You have to purchase a PC Satellite TV program for this but the good news is you don’t have to deal with the all the ads. A few years back I paid a few hundred for a PC to Satellite TV program. Now a days most of the programs are under a hundred bucks and you get free updates. It’s important to keep in mind that out of 3000 channels you will find most are junk. This is the same with cable. How many channels do you really watch? After sifting through a few thousand channels I do have some I watch a few times a week and even more when I’m on the road. They have James Bond Movies, the new Dr Who series over in the UK and those crazy Japanese game shows.

Directv Features Hughes Receivers and Satellite TV Components

David Johnson asked:

All of the leading satellite TV programming service providers will give you a free complete satellite TV system when you sign an extended TV programming agreement with them and this also includes DirecTV. The people at DirecTV like to think that that the Hughes brand of satellite TV systems and components are of a higher quality then the other systems that their competitors have to offer you and upon close examination it was determined that they may be correct.

To start with, they pay more for their Hughes satellite TV systems and components and as a general rule of thumb, you really do get whet you pay for in home electronics components. There is still more evidence there though to validate their claims though and the fact is that Hughes systems carry more features that you will find in their competitors satellite systems and receivers.

One thing that many of their competitors don’t offer with their satellite receivers is DVR Powered by TiVo and for sports enthusiasts this is a much desired option to have in a satellite receiver. It’s the function that gives you instant slow motion replay, as well as the ability to stop and then restart a game or program right where it left off and this is a handy function to have for bathroom or fridge runs during a game or movie.

The third function that DVR Powered by TiVo performs is giving you the ability to skip right past any commercials that come on during games. DirecTV is commercial free, but sports events do have commercials that the broadcasters put in them themselves and these are where this function comes in handy.

Because Hughes systems and components are more expensive for DirecTV to carry, they don’t give away their high definition receivers for free with their high definition programming. This is because a high definition receiver is a very complex and high tech piece of equipment and a good quality high definition receiver, such as a Hughes receiver, is quite expensive.

DirecTV doesn’t charge the full cost of the recover though and you are only required to pay a nominal amount to help offset the expense of the unit. It is important to bear in mind that once you are given a satellite TV system by a satellite TV service provider it is your to own and even though it will come with a warranty, once the warranty runs out it is your baby if it begins to malfunction, as home electronics components quite often do.

Satellite receivers and especially high definition satellite receivers are very complex pieces of electronics gear and you would be well advised to do your best to see to it that you acquire the highest quality equipment that you can get when you set out to get yourself set up with satellite TV programming. The more feature and functions that there are in a receiver, then the more things that there are to go wrong and this is the main reason why DirecTV chose Hughes Electronics to be their exclusive supplier of satellite TV systems and components.

All About Hughes Receivers From Directv

David Johnson asked:

Hughes is the exclusive brand of satellite TV systems and components that DirecTV carries and DirecTV chose Hughes, because of their long standing reputation for quality and reliability that is recognized world wide. When you sign on to become a member of the DirecTV family of TV viewers, you will receive a complete Hughes satellite system free of charge and it also comes with free installation along with an extended warranty on all parts and service.

The heart of a satellite TV system is the receiver and it is a very complex piece of electronics gear that has multiple functions that can include digital video recording capabilities if you choose. DirecTV prides itself on being the leader in sports programming and this is the reason for the option of having DVR Powered by TiVo installed in your Hughes receiver.

With this function you can do your own slow motion instant replays during the games that you watch. TiVo also allows you to zip right past any and all commercials that come on during your games. The third feature that TiVo brings you is the ability to stop any TV programming in place and then start it back up where it left off when you return to your TV.

DirecTV has two high definition Hughes receivers for you to select from. One is a basic model that has a limited number of features and the other high definition receiver comes with several features and also has the opton of DVR and DVR Powered by TiVo. The high definition DVR receiver will also receive standard programming as well as high definition programming. The DVR in the receiver holds twenty-five hours of high definition recording as well as one-hundred hours of standard recording.

If you aren’t going to be receiving high definition programming and you have a Total Choice programming package larger then one-hundred and twenty-five channels then you will need the Hughes Executive receiver and you have your choice of getting this receiver with DVR and DVR Powered by TiVo.

This receiver also comes loaded with great features such as custom menu, programming search feature that allows you to find ay scheduled program by simply entering it into the search function. This receiver also has a great parental control feature that lets you block out any channels that you choose.

The receiver that you will be using if you opt for DirecTV’s base level economy package that is called Family Choice is the Hughes Director receiver. This is a solid, functional receiver that doesn’t include all of the functions that the Executive model receiver has. You really don’t need custom menu and programming search if you have the forty channels of programming that come in the Family Choice programming package.

This receiver also doesn’t have the DVR feature option as well. You can always upgrade to any receiver that you would like and there is no service charge for upgrading either your programming package or your receiver with DirecTV.
