Noisy Kids and Television Do not Mix

David Johnson asked:

If your home is anything like my home attempting to watch your favorite show anytime the whole family is home is pretty much impossible. Coming for a family of seven, having four younger siblings, there was always something going on. Once you sat down to watch you show it was like everyone else in the house had a different show to watch at that time and there were not as many TV’s as there were people to go around. Then there was the rare moments when you did get to watch what you wanted to but it was like hardly watching your show at all because you missed more than half of it. During the commercials it is all quiet and nice but some how right when the show came back on it was like BAM! And the fighting, yelling, and running through the living room with laser tag games all seems to occur right then and there. Might as well just watch the television with subtitles and hope they stop running in front of the TV long enough for me to read them right? Well, if you know what I am talking about you will love what I found! I found DirecTV and its wonderful DVR system with TiVo ( Digital Video Recorder system ).

DirecTV provides this awesome DVR system included in many of the Satellite TV packages they offer and the DVR system is a dream come true for a home like mine. The DVR system is just amazing and it allows me to never have to miss a moment of my favorite shows! The DVR system allows me to be able to take control of my television to be able to watch it how my household demands. You can use the DVR and TiVo set up to pause, fast forward, and even rewind the shows you are watching! If I sit down for my show and the screaming, yelling and crazy playing begins in the living room I just hit pause and take a few minuets to scoot everyone all the way over to the other side of the house. Then I return to my show, with a pit stop to the kitchen along the way for a snack, hit the play button and pick up right where I left off. If some one suddenly runs past the living room screaming I will not get mad because I missed one of the most important line in the show, I will just simply rewind! TiVo and the DVR system makes it possible for you to watch your shows how and when you want to. Heck you can even fast forward right through the commercials! Even better, you can also record up to two shows right onto your DVR system! So no more fighting over whom gets to watch what, just record one show while your watching another!

I will tell you thanks to DirecTV it has made the evenings even more relaxing thanks to all the benefits of the DVR and TiVo system that comes with service from DirecTV. So if you know what I am talking about I know you will surely appriciate the benefits of DirecTV and its DVR and TiVo set up!

With games as its key feature, and the ability to manage music, video, photo, Internet and wireless connectivity, the PSP system is the first truly integrated portable entertainment system designed to handle multiple applications. The PSP combines more than 135 games and more than 130 feature films, TV programs and videos on UMD from major studios and record labels, as well as downloadable content from the Internet – an entertainment library that remains unmatched.

No wires exist to get in your way when you play games with multiple players. Some games support both the ad hoc and the infrastructure mode, giving you infinite possibilities for multiplayer gaming. In the ad hoc mode you compete with players on nearby PSP systems. If you play in infrastructure mode, you would use a Wi-Fi hotspot to play online with people across the globe.

You can watch your favorite TV programs on your PSP system, anywhere, with TiVo to Go Transfers. This innovative subject translates and optimizes recorded content for viewing on your TiVoToGo system. TiVo Transfers automatically exports your Windows content to your Windows PC so you can copy it to your Memory Stick.

Sony has also changed the concept of the living room with its “Less Living Room More Room for Singing” campaign. Their idea of location free living enables you to leave your living room without leaving your home entertainment system behind. Enjoy the content on your PSP system from hotspots anywhere in the world – simply connect your compatible TV, DVD player, DVR, camcorder or PC to the location base station.

PSP is constantly evolving, and exciting new features are added with every system software release. These features have recently been added:

1) Network – Download videos and still image content from RSS channels

2)Play AAC files with the 3.gp file extension

3)Play or display items stored in Music, pictures and video folders on a RSS Stick duo.

Microsoft – Yahoo – Motorola – TiVo – Netscape – MediaBytes

Media30dotcom asked:

MICROSOFT has made an unsolicited offer of $44.6 billion to purchase YAHOO, a 62% premium on the company’s market price at the close of business on Thursday. If successful, this would be the biggest technology takeover in history. Yahoo’s value has plummeted 18% during this year and the company has faced a losing battle against Google in the search and online advertising markets. Rumors and speculation about a possible takeover have swirled of late. As with all things Microsoft, regulators will probably look closely at the acquisition. In related news, Terry Semel will step down as Yahoo’s chairman – ending his affiliation with the company.

MOTOROLA announced that it may sell or spin-off its handset division, which accounts for half of its $36 billion in revenue. The company’s mobile market share has fallen to the lowest levels since 2001 and the company is under pressure from activist investor Carl Icahn to breakup the company. Icahn believes that the cellphone business is worth $20 billion — even though the whole company is currently valued at only $26 billion. The sale is under consideration but no official timeline has been given.

TIVO won a major patent infringement case against ECHOSTAR and was awarded $94 million in damages. An appeals court upheld an earlier ruling of infringement on TiVo software patents while overturning a ruling of hardware infringement. TiVo also announced that CBS will subscribe to its StopWatch second-by-second TV ratings. The combined news jolted TiVo stock up over 30% during the day.

GOOGLE reported 17% growth in profit and 51% growth in revenue during the fourth quarter. Those numbers represent a slight slowdown in its growth rate. The company blamed the slowdown on social networks, which are proving harder to monetize than initially expected. Sergey Brin said recent efforts to improve advertising on the networks had failed. Paid clicks increased 30%, also a slower growth rate than Google has seen in the past. Investors grew skittish on the report and drove the stock down 9%.

FACEBOOK had its finances leaked after Mark Zuckerburg hosted a company meeting with an open dial-in number. During the call Zuckerburg revealed that 2007 revenue was $150 million and is expected to grow to $300 million in 2008. The company will spend $200 million on capital expenses and anticipates 2008 EBITDA of $50 million. With the capital expenditures, Facebook will have negative cash flow during 2008. It will also double in size from its current 450 employees to almost 1000.

AMAZON has purchased AUDIBLE for around $280 million. Audible is a major player in the downloadable audiobook market and supplies audiobook content to the iTunes store. The purchase will increase content available for Amazon’s new Kindle reader.

NETSCAPE will be officially retired today by AOL. All updates and support will stop, as the once industry-leading browser is laid to rest. Farewell old friend.

Josh H asked:

I want to get a tivo, but the Humax looks like it has bad reviews, plus I already own a Panasonic dvd recorder. I have been looking for DVD recorders with hard drives, but those seem to be getting phased out. So my question is if I get a TIVO, will I be able to edit out commercials and record a program off the tivo using my DVD recorder?

A Fresh Look at Directv Programming Packages and Hughes Receivers

David Johnson asked:

You may have noticed as you have been looking at what all of the TV programming service providers have to offer, that they are all by no means the same. There is a wide assortment of programming packages out there for you to select from and there is also a wide choice in the equipment that is available for you to choose from.

DirecTV’s series of programming packages is called Total Choice and their exclusive brand of satellite systems and components is Hughes Electronics. The people at DirecTV feel that that this combination that they have for you gives you the most options that you can get when you are selecting which TV programming service provider to use.

They have several models of Hughes receivers for you to choose from starting with their simple and very functional Hughes Director receiver that will come to you free of charge with their forty channel Family Choice programming package. It’s the perfect receiver for this package, because it doesn’t include all the functions and features that drive up the cost of a receiver and it has a one-hundred and twenty-five channels capacity.

It is important to bear in mind that you get the receiver and the satellite system free of charge when you join the DirecTV family of viewers and this economical receiver is one of the ways that DirecTV is able to have such a low price tag on their entry level package. With only forty channels you’re certainly wouldn’t need a custom menu, programming search function or a high channel capacity.

If you choose to upgrade to a higher level of programming package you also get an upgrade on your receiver and both of these upgrades have no extra service fee, so you only pay for the larger programming package and that is all. DirecTV’s one-hundred and fifty-five channel Total choice package comes with their Hughes Executive receiver and it has all the features that you will need for their higher number of channels that you will be receiving.

With the custom menu feature you can set up your own menu of all of your favorite channels that you can refer to avoid having to search through the main menu every time you want to watch your TV. The Hughes Executive receiver is a state of the art top of the line receiver that is also stylish and attractive. This durably built low profile receiver can also come with digital video recording capabilities as well as DVR Powered by TiVo for doing your own slow motion instant replays.

DirecTV also has a Total Choice plus package with one-hundred and eighty-five channels as well as their top programming package with two-hundred and fifty channels that also includes their high definition channels. This package is called their Total Choice Premier package and it will come with your choice of two high definition receivers, for which there is a very low nominal fee.

The first high definition receiver is a basic model, just like their Hughes Director and the other high definition receiver is modeled along the lines of the Hughes Executive and it comes with DVR or DVR Powered by TiVo. For more information on DirecTV programming packages and receivers you can contact them online.

FCC Auction – Comcast – TiVo – NBC Direct – YuMe Networks -

June 13, 2007 by admin · Leave a Comment

Media30dotcom asked:

THE FCC will start the highly anticipated 700 MHz spectrum auction this Thursday, January 24th. On the block are some of the nation’s most valuable radio waves, which Chairman Kevin Martin calls “the building blocks for the next generation of broadband services.” This is expected to be the most lucrative auction ever conducted by the FCC. The Commission will be posting the anonymous bids daily at auctions.fcc.gov.

COMCAST will begin marketing its TiVo DVR software upgrade to the general public this week in Boston. TiVo is the first tru2way application running on the Comcast network. The initiative sputters to the starting line after multiple delays and with the broken promise of providing TiVo’s most forward-looking features – online video downloads, podcasts, home networking and more. These are all absent from the Comcast release. In addition, early adopters on TiVo forums have been complaining of incredibly slow software performance.

NBC has chosen YUME NETWORKS to deliver ads for NBC Direct. The company will provide NBC with a full range of advertising services, including ad management, campaign management and dynamic insertion of ads into downloaded content. NBC Direct is expected to begin offering its free ad-supported download service later this quarter.

HD DVD is having a rough start to 2008. Sales of the doomed format were just 15% of the HD disc market for the first full week of sales, after averaging 35% for all of 2007. Not one top ten HD video was on the HD DVD format. In January the format has seen eroding studio support, player prices falling through the floor and now depressed sales figures. Happy New Year!

VERIZON has filed suit against COX for eight counts of patent infringement related to VOIP technology. The telco is seeking to block usage of the patents and to collect monetary damages. Verizon recently won an infringement settlement for two of the patents against Vonage and will receive up to $120 million in damages in that suit.
